American streaming service provider Netflix has announced it wants to block users who access content not available in their country ! David Fullagar, VP of Netflix said "During the next few weeks, those who use proxies or unblockers will only be able to access the content that is available in their current country".
How is this possible ? By blocking the IP address of users who want to bypass the system. In an interview, Fullagar confirmed that Netflix has installed new technology to resolve this problem which will be enabled in the upcoming weeks.
A different library for every country
In April of 2015, Media Technology reported that 2 out of 5 Anglophone Canadians are members of Netflix. Out of those, more than a third confirmed that they have access to the American version. This is problematic for Netflix which is now available in 130 countries since rights and licenses need to be negotiated in the open market.
What's the difference between the Canadian and American version?
The American version is more popular with Canadian users because it contains more movies and recent seasons of popular TV shows.
